Dovecote Installation and General information

FINIALS

This is a decorative point that is fitted over the lead crown.

FEED TABLE

We make feed tables to suit the dovecote, they fit around the post just under the cote body and the cote itself acts as a shelter. The tables are fitted after the cotes are erected. The profile of the table matches the cote (hexagonal cote, hexagonal table). The wall cotes also have a "same profile" table in the form of a bracketed shelf. We include two terracotta feed and water hoppers with each table, except the Tenterden which has four hoppers.

INSTALLATION

When you have chosen your cote, we can send it to you to install or, alternatively, we could arrange to bring the cote with the birds and install it for you. This would be arranged through the manufacturer and would entail discussing the cote location, taking into account wind, sun, aesthetics and cats. Based on numerous successful installations they even bring a silhouette cote so they can visually fine tune the cotes' final siteing. They would, of course, dig the hole, erect the cote, make good, install the homing box and doves and, obviously, give guidance to homing procedure and subsequent aftercare of the doves.

THE DOVES AND THEIR HOMING

There is undoubtedly an art to choosing and homing doves, if you would like advice on this we have access to some very experienced people who would be able to help you.

THE HOMING BOX

The "homing box" was developed to aid in the homing of the doves, a simple cage that fits on to the cote giving the birds the use of the box and a single bay of the cote, secure and sheltered for the homing period. It is also fitted with feed, water and grit cups. When the homing period is over you have a useful cage to put birds in that possibly need a bit of mothering before going out to fend for themselves.

Comprehensive notes are supplied with each cote.
